The following was written
by a friend of mine who has committed to praying for my son and our
troops. This is a beautiful poem and I am deeply grateful for
this. Thank You!
Heart's Prayer
I
have on my heart to pray for a man,
one I may never meet
But I bring him to the throne of grace
as I sit at Jesus feet
This man, he is a soldier now
and someone's only son

He's gone away to another place
as the fighting has begun
And for some reason -- I don't know --
I have this aching need
To sit right down here at Your feet
and beg You hear my plea
Just keep him safe and strong for You,
help him keep his stand

While others all around him fear,
hold him in Your hand
Just like in that Psalm I read so much,
the one I try to pray
Lord, keep him safe beneath Your wings
and out of harmful ways
He is a soldier from my land,
the good ole USA

I've been given him and more
to uphold as I pray
So as I sit right here, right now,
I ask with all my heart
That my want be in Your will
to set this one apart
He's gone away to a far off place
to set some captives free
He tows the line of liberty
across another sea

One thing I know about my prayer
that makes me so assured
Is that I read the bible now
and this is what I've heard
You promise that You'll keep your own,
to shelter and protect
As they abide under Your wings
Your own You wont neglect
You said You'd send Your angels down
to keep them safe from harm
And hold them close and comforted
regardless of the storm
This one here, I pray for now,
I've heard he knows You too

And so I'm sure...no, more then sure,
his hiding place is You
I've heard he speaks to others
about Your saving power
I know that You can hear him
and will hold him in his hour
Times may get hard and weary
and he might long for rest
But this I know he has Your strength
to take him through this test
Because I know he's Your son too,
just like so many more

And as he calls on Jesus' name
he's covered that's for sure
You'll light the way right down his path
so he can clearly see
The reason that he's on this walk
is all for Your glory
Now some men fight for reasons
I don't think I'll ever understand
But from what I've heard about this guy
that's safely in your hand
That he goes out for justice
and peace and liberty
And follows as You lead him,
to help set captives free
And so I trust the promises
You gave prophets to write down

That You will care and comfort Yours
while polishing their crowns
